Getting Involved - Learning and Growing

Children

Catechist (3K-Grade 6)-  Teaches religious education to a class of 10-15 children two Sundays per month, September-May. Lessons are planned and organized for you.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word -Presents the Sunday readings and guides the reflection on the scriptures for children in grades 1-5, up to two weekends a month.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) -A religious education program conducted by Children’s Ministry for children of preschool and elementary school age. Program takes place one week during summer vacation. Volunteers from the parish serve as teachers.

Youth Ministry

Small Group Facilitator  (Grades 7-8, Confirmation) - Confirmed, fully initiated member of Holy Apostles Parish who guides, assists and helps to form the youth in a better understanding of themes that will be introduced through Edge by Lifeteen and Chosen curriculum. Through the catechist’s own faith journey, s/he is able to be an example to youth of what living our faith in the light of the church may look like.

Confirmation Youth Peer Minister- Confirmed youth who wish to give back to those who are currently preparing for the sacrament.  Through you, you are able to be Christ to them and be an engaging and an enthusiastic part of their small group community.  Your faith can plant seeds that could sprout and grow many fruits.  Please consider serving Christ in this ministry.

Safe Environment Staff - Ensures safety of our youth through their presence in the small group environment in the home of the catechist where they meet with the youth and the peer minister.

Retreat Team - Helps with any coordination, implementation and staffing of retreats. This team would also work with the adult team to help look at the next few years and see what retreats can look like to bring others closer to Christ.

Work Camp

Coordinator- Coordinates a team who would help provide opportunities for transformative experiences to take place. Coordinates details for the work camp(s) taking place, organizes fundraisers, helps the Director of Youth Ministry coordinate meetings to build group dynamics and collects necessary information from participants.

Adult Leader - Prepares with the youth before, during and after the work camp experience; serves at the worksites, and is a role model throughout the process.

Youth CYM Sports

Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM Sports) - Provides an opportunity for youth grades 9-12 to participate in  boys basketball, girls basketball or co-ed volleyball.

Coordinator - Serves as liaison between Director of Youth Ministry, Safeguarding Coordinator, coaches, parents and players.  Collects and submits all paperwork to parish and Archdiocese as necessary.  10-12 hours per season.

Coach - Participates as a coach or chaperone for girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, co-ed volleyball for a season.


School

Athletic Association- Develops an interscholastic athletic program at Holy Apostles School.  Provides a positive learning experience for Christian development through a competitive environment; teaches sportsmanship and teamwork while giving our students the opportunity to improve their knowledge of sports and skill levels.

Home & School-Fosters effective communication and cooperation between parents, educators, staff and the community; support the spiritual and educational mission of the home and school; provide well-planned programs/ activities of information and interest to parents and students; promote the advancement of Catholic Education; and conduct fundraising projects to financially assist phases of the educational process as needed.

School Volunteer -Supports and enhances the teachings and efforts of school staff by assisting in classrooms, lunchroom, playground and office.


Adult

Bible Study- Assists in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of opportunities for Bible study; Meets 3-4 times a year.

Cluster Adult Ministry- Assists in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of opportunities for adults to grow in their faith for the Catholic Community of New Berlin and our cluster – Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Luke, and Holy Apostles; Meets 4-6 times a year.

Marriage Preparation Ministry- Guides engaged couples through an assessment tool that is created to foster open communication and help them to better evaluate their readiness for marriage by welcoming them into one’s home and facilitating the FOCCUS process (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding, and Study).

RCIA (Rite for Christian Initiation of Adults)- Assists in preparing adults who have not been baptized or adults who have been baptized in another Christian denomination to become Catholic.

Young Adult Ministry- Assists in the planning, coordination, and evaluation of opportunities for young adults to build relationships with one another and grow in faith as Disciples of Christ. This is done in partnership with FISH (Faith Inspired Social Hour) – a collaborative effort with several other parishes in the area.


Family

1st Eucharist Retreat - Prepares children grade 2 and above for this sacrament. Assists Director of Children’s Ministry in leading one small group session.

1st Reconciliation Retreat - Prepares children grade 2 and above for this sacrament. Assists Director of Children’s Ministry in leading one small group session.

Boy Scouts- Provides an educational program for boys and young adult males to build character.

Cub Scouts- Provides an educational program for boys in the parish 2nd through 5th grade.

Girl Scouts- Provides positive living values and experiences through a variety of activities for girls Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Vista Family Ministry- Provides individuals and families an annual four-day summer retreat and a range of faith-building, social and service activities throughout the year.
