Mission Director: Principal

Holy Apostles Catholic School in New Berlin, WI, is seeking a full time principal for the 2018-2019 school year.  The parish is committed to hiring a principal who will help us continue our important mission and build on the strength of our school. Our school has a tremendous foundation and 125 years of history. Over the last several years we have seen much growth in our enrollment, programs, faith, and service.  As we come off an accreditation year, we know our processes, academics, and teams are strong. Our teachers are dedicated to helping our students grow physically, academically, socially, and spiritually.  

Candidate must complete the “Safeguarding All of God’s Family” training or the willingness to obtain it.

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities

Provide leadership for carrying out the mission, vision, and strategic goals of the school.

Maintain a school culture that reflects Catholic identity and provides students, staff, and faculty with opportunities to celebrate their faith.
Ensure the overall quality of the academic program by overseeing a faculty that delivers high quality, research- based curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Oversee professional development of all faculty and staff.
Facilitate continuous improvement of the instructional program, including modifications, accommodations, and personalization for learners of all types.
Recruit, train, and provide ongoing formation and leadership development for participants.
Maintain a positive, student-centered school culture in which all community members can thrive.
Develop diverse and effective communication strategies for targeted audiences.
Attend and participate in meetings essential to forming disciples.
Provide annual reviews to the mission directors, Pastoral Council and Finance Council.
Communicate effectively in person, on the phone, in writing, and with social media.
Promote good public relations both within and beyond the parish.
Participate in cluster, district, and archdiocesan networks of professional peers.
Collaborate with others to advance holistic Child-Family-Youth Discipleship.

Prepare and monitor a budget.

Plan, select, supervise, and evaluate staff in collaboration with the Mission Director of Administration.                                                                                         

Plans for and defines resources needed to support and implement these ministries.
Plans for recruitment, selection, and orientation of employees. 
Provides ongoing coaching and review as well as formal reviews.
Manages employee and personnel related problems/opportunities by interpreting and equitably and consistently applying authorized personnel policies.

Align parish resources to most effectively and efficiently further the parish mission.
Create models for parish ministries that promote discipleship, provide layers of hospitality, and achieve the Standards for Excellence.
Serve, support, and challenge team members to align discipleship processes, ministries and services with the parish mission.
Create a yearly calendar that aligns with the parish mission calendar.
Attend and participate in leadership meetings for the staff and parish.
Attend and participate in parish-wide mission events and meetings essential to forming disciples.
Make decisions with mutual respect in a timely manner. Seek assistance when consensus is not achieved.
Choose to serve first and then lead.  Demonstrate servant leadership that encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and empowerment.
Build trust and respect by always responding to contacts within 24-48 hours.
Be personal and professional.

Mission Assistant: Child, Youth, and Family

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, activities, and skills required of the job and people in the job.

Relationship Building

Field questions from parishioners/visitors and address their needs, or connect to appropriate Mission Director.
Encourage “next step” in discipleship formation and engagement.
Provide orientation and direction to volunteers as needed.

Sacraments- First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation

A.  Sacrament Planning:

-  Send out letters to eligible families with children and youth explaining the sacrament process.
-  Create documents needed by director such as orders of worship (First Reconciliation only), calendars, retreat schedules etc.
-  Orders and prepares sacramental materials, and retreat supplies.
-  Attends Sacrament Parent meeting to distribute materials.
-  Verifies baptism dates/notifies parishes after sacraments have been celebrated.
-  Contacts cantor for First Reconciliation Celebrations, confirm priests for celebrations and request stipends.

B.  Sacrament Retreats

-  Directs and coordinates retreat setup/take down and facilitation of stations if needed.
-  Coordinates volunteers to assist with prep work for retreats.
-  Connects with Sweets and Treats ministry with requests for retreat days.

Child and Youth Ministry, Family discipleship, ALPHA, and Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Insert all faith formation events into the parish calendar. Creates work orders as needed for events.
Support Mission Directors during Family Discipleship, ALPHA, Youth Ministry and VBS sessions.
Orders supplies for each program as needed.
Create and maintain participant lists for each ministry.
Directs environment set up and take down at each event.
Coordinates meals with hospitality team on monthly basis.
Prepares take home packets for Family sessions per Mission Director.
Creates bulletin/Messenger announcements as needed.
Tracks all payments and initiates collections to families who have not paid for the year.
Creates email, documents, forms, calendars etc. as needed by Mission Director.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and/or Experience Requirements

Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as proven ability in working with people, computers, and office management required.  Experience with Microsoft Office and database tools preferred.  Ability to talk about one’s personal relationship with Jesus and love of the Catholic Church desired. Commitment to ongoing spiritual growth desired. Understanding of servant leadership, discipleship, and disciple-making principles desired.

Working Environment

Evening and weekend hours are required.
