Mission Advancement Officer

Develop, direct, and coordinate a parish and school Advancement program to secure resources that sustain and advance the parish and school mission.

The primary function of this position is to design and execute a comprehensive development plan that promotes and champions the parish mission in collaboration with other staff. This position is responsible for communicating the parish mission, cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors, and implementing diverse development strategies to advance the parish mission and sustain the work of parish ministries. The Officer will be both bold and strategic yet able to work with details in order to establish and lead a best in class mission advancement program.

Major Position Responsibilities and Regular Activities            

Develop, direct, and coordinate a parish and school Advancement program to secure resources that sustain and advance the parish and school mission.

-  Cultivate and steward relationships with donors and potential donors.  Maintain a portfolio of key donors for the purposes of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
-  Develop and implement strategies in collaboration with leadership and implement such to achieve annual giving goals including major and mid-level donor cultivation and solicitation. e.g.  on-line giving, regular and/or special invitations, regular communication, acknowledgment of contributions received, annual Commitment to Parish Life (CPL) initiative, bequests, planned giving, capital campaigns, and/or other appropriate programs.
-  Maintain and update a current prospect database of all constituent groups.
-  Develop and train all internal partners to assist in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of mid-level and major gift donors to the parish and school. 
-  Research foundations that match Holy Apostles funding priorities and cultivate relationships with Giving Officers at the foundations aligned with parish ministries.
-  Write and submit grant proposals.
-  Insure there is a clear connection with parish stewardship and engagement efforts.
-  Provide annual reviews (or other reports as needed) to mission directors, Finance Council, Pastoral Council, and parish at large.
-  Communicate effectively in person, on the phone, in writing, and with social media.
-  Promote good public relations both within and beyond the parish.
-  Participate in cluster, district, and archdiocesan networks of professional peers.

Promote and champion the parish mission.

-  Collaborate with pastor, parish staff, and parish leadership in the ongoing development and implementation of the parish mission.
-  Create and communicate a persistent and consistent message that reflects the parish mission.
-  Embrace, understand, experience, and communicate the Intentional Disciple-Making Ministry.  Create a yearly calendar that achieves a common message and voice throughout the entire parish that supports the parish mission and constituent giving.
-  Serve, support, and challenge team members to align programs and services with the parish mission and constituent giving.
-  Attend and participate in leadership and Intentional Discipleship Making meetings of the staff and parish.
-  Choose to serve first and then lead.  Demonstrate servant leadership that encourages collaboration, trust, foresight, listening, and empowerment.

Prepare and monitor the Advancement Department budget.

   Select, supervise, and evaluate staff. 

-  Plan for and define required staff to support and implement Advancement Department  
-  Participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of employees.
-  Provide ongoing coaching and review as well as formal reviews.
-  Participate in decision-making on employee and personnel related problems and opportunities by interpreting and equitably and consistently applying authorized personnel policies.


Education, Training, and/or Experience Requirements

Three to five years of experience in leadership, sales, and/or development necessary. Demonstrated accomplishments in fundraising, grants, and writing as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office and development software.  BA in related field or equivalent. Excellent interpersonal skills and commitment to ongoing spiritual growth are important. Ability to talk about one’s personal relationship with Jesus and love of the Catholic Church required. Understanding of servant leadership, discipleship, and disciple-making principles needed.

Responsibility for Quantifiable Measures

Position will be asked to meet expected annual metrics and fund-raising goals set by the Pastor. 

Working Environment

Regular evening and occasional weekend work required.
